I stopped somewhere else: the event staged there is designed as a dress rehearsal exactly one year before the Games. A rehearsal does not answer which team is stronger. It answers whether the ball travels the way the drawings intended, from the airflow of the air-conditioning system to the position of the camera behind the sideline. In volleyball, most decisions are not made on the final contact. They are made before the referee blows the whistle, inside things nobody broadcasts. A dress rehearsal one year out is valuable because it measures that frame before teams are forced to choose. So what does the rehearsal actually test? Operations are the visible part: ticketing, moving seventeen thousand spectators, turnaround time between matches, changing rooms, warm-up areas. The harder part is the set of parameters that touch the ball: airflow volume and direction, light intensity and angle, ceiling height, free zone depth, camera positions for the challenge system. One year is the right window. Earlier, the arena may not be finished. Later, there is no chance to fix anything. The blind spot lies elsewhere. A dress rehearsal confirms logistics, not final competition conditions. An arena that runs smoothly in testing can still have its air conditioning reconfigured before opening night. When the whole world believes in the champion, I only look at the link that is cracking. For LA28, that link is not on the court. It sits in the distance between the athletes' village and the arena, and in the fact that the host team gets a year of familiarity with an Olympic floor while everyone else must survive qualifying first. That is an advantage that never appears in the world ranking. For Vietnamese volleyball, the Anaheim story is not a logistics story. The women's national team sits in the group that must accumulate points through FIVB events to lift its ranking, while also targeting direct entry through the continental route. It is whether the rehearsal generates public data. If it does, that is a gift to every team, including those without a ticket yet.
