In midfield, the change is generational rather than a tactical tweak. Alex Scott in, Jordan Henderson out. Up front, Calvert-Lewin's inclusion is about role, not form. Kane is still there, but he turns 33 when the 2026 cycle closes. A tall, aerially dominant striker suited to set pieces is insurance for knockout football, and also cover for a forward line with only one proven world-class spearhead.

Another layer
