Gonzalez's splits were 10.68/12.80/15.20/12.78, with a fast 12.78 closing freestyle leg. The time secures his spot at this year's Short Course World Championships. More significantly, he posted five personal bests during the meet, showing consistent form rather than a single lucky swim. Still, the 0.04-second improvement is a marginal edge, not a seismic shift. Gonzalez remains more than a second outside the all-time global lead, but his recent silver in the 200m IM at the European Championships and disciplined pacing make him a credible threat in short course competition.
